Thumbs Up Africa
Thumbs Up organiseert haar eerste lifttocht voor duurzaamheid, die in de zomer van 2012 plaats zal vinden. De liftreis van 15.000 kilometer van Groningen naar Kaapstad, Zuid-Afrika, wordt georganiseerd onder de projectnaam Thumbs Up Africa.
Het evenement zal direct te volgen zijn via een interactief online multimediaforum en na afloop van de reis via een televisie serie, zodat de ervaringen van deze reis niet alleen tijdens de reis en op lokaal niveau, maar ook bij de volgers thuis en op grotere schaal zullen leiden tot een vergroot bewustzijn over wat duurzaamheid concreet betekent.
De lifters zullen ook actief meewerken in innovatieve en inspirerende humanitaire hulp en ontwikkelingsprojecten op verschillende plekken in Afrika.

Are you a doctor with an interest in Africa or do you have a degree in tropical medicine and international health? Are you a mechanic with a good knowledge of 4WD jeeps? ? Or do you have substantial knowledge and/or experience with the local topography, political, cultural and security situations in the countries which TU will travel through?Would you like to embark on the adventure of a life-time and travel across Africa in the summer of 2012? TU is looking for two medics, two mechanics (drivers and maintenance/repairs of the convoy vehicles) and multiple fixers (local guides in each of the countries) who can accompany the Thumbs Up Support Convoy and the TU Support Crew in this adventurous and unprecedented journey for the months of June, July and August 2012.

In de zomer van 2012 gaat een groep lifters het avontuur van hun leven aan: een liftreis van 15 000 kilometer van Nederland naar Zuid-Afrika. Het doel? Alle gezichten van Afrika laten zien. Zo leren we de mensen en verhalen achter de plaatjes kennen en gaat het begrip 'duurzaamheid' leven. Waarom kan een meisje in Nairobi niet uit de prostitutie komen? Hoe is het leven van een jongen in Libie nu? Wat doet een gezin in Ethiopie tijdens de droogte om aan genoeg voedsel te komen? Duurzaamheid is het zoeken naar gelijke kansen, de balans tussen mens en natuur, vreedzame oplossingen. De vraag aan ons is nu hoe we dit gaan doen, de nieuwe generaties, wereldwijd. Wil jij de uitdaging aangaan? Direct ideeen uitwisselen met ambitieuze vluchtelingen in Soedan en meepraten over creatieve oplossingen met jongeren in Zambia?
